Brei's Blenderized Diet - Updates

Brei's dietary needs are on our minds 100% of the time, they may not always be at the forefront of our minds, but they are constant thoughts somewhere floating around in our heads. We are always researching food and highly recommend the Encyclopedia of Healing Foods by Michael Murray, ND if you are in need of food knowledge. When you have a child with GI issues, Autism behaviors and leaky gut (just to name a few) what you put in their g-tube is the most important thing you can do for them. It will make or break your day, one wrong food item can set their GI system into a tailspin, can cause stomach pain or bring out the worst bouts of Autism behaviors you've ever seen. So, food, it's a real important topic around here.

We have made a few changes to Brei's blenderized recipe and are hoping for great results. She is losing weight currently, not a lot, nothing alarming, but little by little she is losing. So, we have decided to add Avocado's which are high in calories, protein, fat, fiber, Magnesium, Vitamin K, Phosphorous, Potassium, Niacin, and Vitamin A. Wow! Go Avocado's! You pack a powerful punch my lime green friend. We have also added dates which pack an additional 275 calories and Mango's which add 65 calories, Calcium and a whopping 3894 mcg's of Vitamin A. I'm especially excited about the Vitamin A because Brei needs all the help she can get when it comes to the health of her eyes. She has a history of vision problems and has had 14 eye surgeries so....Vitamin A, we love you!

In the next few months we will be researching ways to pack more B Vitamin's into her blenderized foods. Currently she receives the B-12 injections and takes a B6 supplement. We (we being my hubby and I) strongly believe that the best source of these vitamins are through whole, organic foods, we have yet to find the best food source for Brei. Fish are the main source, obviously, and we are currently chelating Mercury out of her system. I realize there are healthy, safe sources of fish out there but the affordability is the main issue. So, for now, we will stick with the supplements that we know are free of any contaminants.

If you are new to blenderized diets, be patient and open to change. As you become more knowledgeable of whole foods you will constantly be making changes to the recipe. Take it one day and a time and try to enjoy the process.
